About Senken Knives
Traditional Japanese Mastery Meets the Modern Kitchen
Metalworking has been an integral craft in Japan since the 13th century, shaping a legacy of precision, balance, and control through centuries of swordsmithing and steelwork.
Through the passing on of techniques from generation to generation, a legacy of mastery in knifemaking has been kept alive to the present day. Japanese steel is considered to be some of the world's finest and most sought out after.

Japanese VG10 Steel with 67-Layer Damascus
Our Damascus knife sets are forged around a core of premium Japanese VG10 steel, a high-carbon stainless steel prized for its exceptional edge retention, durability, and balance. Traditionally reserved for professional Japanese chefs, VG10 remains one of the most respected steels in modern knifemaking.
Each VG10 core is reinforced by 33 layers of folded Damascus steel on both sides, creating a robust 67-layer blade that enhances strength while producing the distinctive Damascus pattern admired for both its performance and beauty.
In addition to our Damascus collections, Senken Knives also offers high-carbon stainless steel knife sets featuring permanently engraved blade designs, delivering refined aesthetics and dependable performance at a more accessible price point.

The Origin of Senken Knives
Senken Knives was founded by two Americans who became inspired while living in Tokyo, Japan to spread the legacy of Japanese culinary mastery to chefs, knife-enthusiasts, and home cooks around the world.
The word Senken (嬋娟) is an ancient Japanese word that best translates to grace, sleekness, and beauty - all key elements in both the function and form of every knife that we craft.
Today, Senken Knives is headquartered in Salt Lake City, UT, USA, and continues to design unique kitchen knife sets for the modern world, while still adhering to tradition and keeping the ancient Japanese legacy alive.

Why We Sell Direct
Senken Knives operates on a direct-to-consumer model, eliminating traditional retail layers and third-party markups.
Without storefront overhead or distributor margins built into the price, the cost of each knife reflects the steel, the construction, and the details, not the retail channel behind it.
The result is direct, transparent pricing — and knives built without compromise.

At the end of the day, our goal is simple: to create knives that feel exceptional to use and earn their place in your kitchen.
Thoughtful design, careful craftsmanship, and a direct relationship with our customers guide everything we do.
